New Music Friday: Walrus

Halifax’s Walrus released their acclaimed debut LP, Family Hangover, early this year via Dan Mangan‘s Madic Records. Today the band has revealed the Luke McCutcheon and Michael Yablonski-directed video for the album’s title-track.

Walrus will close out a very busy year, which included being banned by Avis, by releasing a digital-split single with label-mates WHOOP-Szo on November 3rd. A deluxe version ofFamily Hangover will be released tomorrow in Japan via Moorworks. The band has a number of Canadian dates booked, including a massive homecoming show in Halifax at The Marquee on November 24th. A full list of dates can be found below.

Family Hangover features a soulful, fuzzed-out mix of swirling vocals, wailing guitar riffs, and Spacemen 3-style drone, all with a laid-back, ’60s-infused vibe. The band offered a first taste of the album with lead single “Regular Face” and followed it up with the psych-tinged “In Timely Fashion”which Stereogum called “four minutes of thumping, synthing wonder.”
