Matthews Helps Babcock Reach Record

Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, last year’s Calder Trophy winner, and Devils defenseman Will Butcher, recipient of the 2017 Hobey Baker Award, each registered two points to continue their hot starts to the season and help their respective teams improve to 4-1-0:

Matthews (2-0—2) scored his third career overtime goal – and second this week (also Monday vs. CHI) – to help the Maple Leafs defeat the Canadiens for the first time since Jan. 18, 2014. Matthews has registered at least one point in every game this season (5-3—8). With the victory, Mike Babcock became the 16th head coach in NHL history to record 600 career wins.
