The King Of Cool Turns 100: Dean Martin

June 7,2017 would’ve been the 100th birthday of the original King of Cool: Dean Martin. Today Martin’s influence is still heard in popular artists music such as Michael Bublé , She & Him, Pussycat Dolls and Robbie Williams, who have all covered his songs. You can also hear Dino’s music in popular commercials and multiple soundtracks today. His song “The Birds and the Bees” is in the new ad for the Volkswagen Atlas.

-He was born Dino Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio
-Briefly ruled the ring as boxing phenom Kid Crochet
-Before he made it in Hollywood he drove liquor across state lines during prohibition
-His first single was “Which Way Did My Heart Go?”
-At the height of Beatlemania Dino knocked them off the top spot with “Everybody Loves Somebody”
-Dropped out of high school in the 10h grade
-His comedic portrayal of life as an alcoholic lush, which many people never realized was just an act
-He starred in Marilyn Monroe’s final film Something’s Got to Give (1962) before she died. Film was never completed.
-He died on Christmas day 1995
