Toronto Raptors All-Star Guard DeMar DeRozan was part of the Raptors Academy Camp this week held just north west of the city. Besides his interview about his NBA2K Canadian cover he has been relatively quiet this summer. Today he answered his thoughts on the Western Conferences off-season.
You got to love it being a fan of basketball period. You have got to love it. It’s more so about the unexpected, nobody saw this coming. I think it just heightens the expectations for next year across the NBA. You know? Anything can happen.
The Western teams weren’t the only ones making headlines the last few weeks. On Monday it was reported that Cleveland Cavaliers Kyrie Irving wanted to be traded from his Championship team. A move that has not only shocked a lot of players but the fans of the franchise. DeMar said he has no idea how a Kyrie-less Cavs team would affect the Raptors chances.
You never know until you’re 40-50 games into the season what is going to happen. I could think one thing but it could turn out to be something totally different. So I just take it day-by-day. You know I’m going to be just like you, watching seeing how it turns out.
One of the Raptors big question marks going into the summer was what was DeRozan’s All-Star backcourt teammate Kyle Lowry going to do. Last summer DeRozan signed a record contract with the club and when it came to his turn to see what Lowry was going to do, he said he didn’t feel their was any uncertainty about his decision.
I don’t really worry about what is going to happen, I let what we learn over our careers to speak for itself. I wait for the word and then whatever happens then happens. I don’t mean to say it in a cocky way like I know but, it’s just I kind of just know.
The kids at the Raptors Camp got to ask DeRozan a few questions including, “Who is your best friend?”
His response: Kyle.
