Canada Defeats Mexico In FIBA U19 World Cup Round Of 16

he U19 Women’s National Team defeated Mexico 64-43 in the Round of 16 at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Italy. With this win Canada advances to the quarter-finals of the tournament on Friday July 28, 2017.

Alyssa Jerome (Toronto, ON) led Canada with 12 points and 5 rebounds while Angela Bongomin (Regina, SK) and Summer Masikewich (Calgary, AB) each added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Aislinn Konig (Langley, BC) also had 9 points in Canada’s win.

I think we played really unified as a team today and executed our key points like boxing out and rebounding.” Summer Masikewich said after the game. “We also focused on getting some paint touches into our post because of our size advantage. I think we executed that well and we came out with some great scores.”

Canada had a dominant first quarter establishing a 22-5 lead against Mexico. Leading Mexico 43-18 at the half, Canada pulled away in the second half en route to a 21-point win.
