2018 Leafs Season Opener Vs Jets

The 100th opening night in League history features a national doubleheader in both the U.S. and Canada as eight teams drop the puck on the 2017-18 NHL season.

Forwards Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine – who finished first and second, respectively, in rookie scoring in 2016-17 – are expected to meet for the third time in their careers when the Maple Leafs visit the Jets in the opening game of the 2017-18 season.

Leafs forward Auston Matthews is the only active player to score four goals in a season opener, achieving the feat on Oct. 12, 2016 when he became the first player in the NHL’s modern era (since 1943-44) to score four times in his League debut. Eight other active players have scored a hat trick in a season opener.
